How to Replace a Facemask

Learn how to replace a facemask to save time and money when yours becomes damaged. Player positions use different facemasks: some offer greater protection for the face, while others offer a greater field of vision. The same rules apply for replacing all of them.
First: Find the screw holes for attaching the new facemask
Find the existing holes on the front and sides of the helmet where the screws for the new facemask attach. There are four of these holes, one on each side and two on the front, just above eye level. Clear away dirt or other obstructions in or around the screw holes.
Second: Locate the four rubber brackets
Find the rubber brackets on the facemask. There are four brackets, and they keep the facemask in position and are affixed to the helmet around the screws.
Third: Do a visual inspection to ensure proper facemask fit
Take the new facemask and put it up next to the helmet. Examine the two pieces as if they were attached. Check to see that the screw holes in the rubber brackets line up with the ones in the helmet. These holes must align correctly. If so, this is the proper replacement facemask for your helmet.
Fourth: Attach the facemask to the helmet
Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, turn the screws to the right and fasten them through the rubber brackets of the facemask onto the helmet. Tighten the screws until the rubber brackets are securely aligned with the helmet, making sure to hold the facemask in position.
